Step 3: Your Solar Install
The working relationship with your contractor
Your contractor should apply for permits, utility interconnection, and State incentives on your behalf. A typical residential solar installation may take up to a few months from time of site assessment to design to installation and through energizing. Your contractor should be able to provide a timeline for the process.
A reminder to read about what you can expect when you install solar at your home in the From Paperwork to Panels section. Or, if you’d rather watch and listen, here’s a helpful video:
Roof work should be done before you install a solar system.
Your solar contractor should be able to assess your roof to advise you if work is needed. Roof repairs should occur before installation with a roofing material that has at least a 25 year life cycle, to match that of your solar equipment. This is to alleviate the cost of removing the system in the future to address roofing issues.
